IQST Visit and Colloquium Bring the Community Together at KIT

On 28 July 2026, IQST hosted its latest Visit and Colloquium at the Karls­ruhe Insti­tute of Techno­logy (KIT). The event offered parti­cipants a full day of scientific exchange, network­ing, and the oppor­tun­ity to explore KIT’s quantum research activ­it­ies as IQST’s newest partner institution. 

The day began with the IQST Visit, where parti­cipants explored KIT’s quantum research envir­on­ment through guided labor­at­ory tours and an overview of the insti­tute’s activ­it­ies presen­ted by Prof. David Hunger. Across two tour sessions, visit­ors had the oppor­tun­ity to discover research carried out in the Werns­dor­fer, Ustinov, Willke, Pop, and Hunger research groups, gaining first-hand insights into topics ranging from molecu­lar spin qubits and super­con­duct­ing quantum circuits to spin-photon inter­faces and single-atom spin control. A network­ing lunch provided further oppor­tun­it­ies for discus­sion and exchange. 

The after­noon contin­ued with the IQST Colloquium. The programme opened with an early-career researcher present­a­tion by Dr. Andrei Pavlov (KIT), who spoke on Topolo­gical Trans­itions in Quantum Jump Dynam­ics: Hidden Excep­tional Points.

The invited talk was delivered by Prof. Ioan Pop (KIT), who presen­ted Quantum Coher­ent Super­con­duct­ing Vortex States. His present­a­tion highlighted recent advances in super­con­duct­ing quantum devices and sparked lively discus­sions that contin­ued during the network­ing recep­tion over coffee. 

The event brought together research­ers from across Baden-Württemberg’s vibrant quantum ecosys­tem, foster­ing scientific exchange, strength­en­ing collab­or­a­tions, and creat­ing new oppor­tun­it­ies for inter­ac­tion across institutions.
