IQST Gradu­ate School @QuantumBW Brings Early-Career Research­ers Together in Ulm

The IQST Gradu­ate School @QuantumBW Project Present­a­tions and Early-Career Train­ing Activ­it­ies took place from 22–24 June 2026 at Ulm Univer­sity and NVision Quantum Techno­lo­gies GmbH, bring­ing together PhD students, academic super­visors, industry advisors, early-career research­ers from across Baden-Württemberg. The three-day event combined scientific exchange, trans­fer­able skills train­ing, and industry engage­ment as part of the Gradu­ate School’s struc­tured quali­fic­a­tion programme. These activ­it­ies are made possible through the support of the Minis­terium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg through the Innov­a­tion­scam­pus QuantumBW. 

Scientific exchange and project presentations

The event opened with present­a­tions by the eleven doctoral research­ers of the IQST Gradu­ate School @QuantumBW, who shared the progress of their research projects spanning quantum comput­ing, integ­rated photonics, super­con­duct­ing techno­lo­gies, quantum sensing, and quantum mater­i­als. The scientific programme also featured a tutorial lecture by Prof. Dr. Kai Bongs (German Aerospace Center – DLR) on Quantum Techno­lo­gies for Space, highlight­ing emerging applic­a­tions of quantum techno­lo­gies beyond the laboratory. 

The day concluded with a poster session and network­ing recep­tion, provid­ing parti­cipants with the oppor­tun­ity to discuss their research, exchange ideas across insti­tu­tions, and strengthen collab­or­a­tions within the IQST community. 

Train­ing in scientific writing

On the second day, parti­cipants atten­ded the full-day workshop “From Draft to Public­a­tion: Principles of Scientific Writing”, led by Dr. Andreas Trabe­singer. Through inter­act­ive sessions, parti­cipants explored strategies for struc­tur­ing scientific manuscripts, improv­ing writing style, navig­at­ing the public­a­tion process, and making effect­ive use of modern AI tools to support academic writing. 

Industry insights at NVision Quantum Technologies

The programme concluded with a visit to NVision Quantum Techno­lo­gies GmbH in Ulm. Parti­cipants gained first-hand insights into the company’s work at the inter­face between quantum science and medical imaging through present­a­tions, discus­sions on career oppor­tun­it­ies, and a guided facil­ity tour. The visit provided valuable perspect­ives on trans­lat­ing quantum research into indus­trial applic­a­tions and highlighted career paths beyond academia. 

Strength­en­ing Baden-Württemberg’s quantum community

The event once again demon­strated the import­ance of combin­ing scientific exchange with profes­sional devel­op­ment and direct inter­ac­tion with industry. By bring­ing together research­ers from univer­sit­ies, research insti­tu­tions, and compan­ies across Baden-Württemberg, the IQST Gradu­ate School @QuantumBW contin­ues to strengthen the state’s growing quantum ecosys­tem and support the devel­op­ment of the next gener­a­tion of quantum scientists.
